What fish, can i catch with boilies?

My advices for Saint Lawrence river .I have been fishing many years this tremendous river on both sides US & French Canadian borders. My advices are:

*When fish spawn: Flashy pop up boilies, this is the only serious way to catch some of them on the backwater. Try to figure it out where are weeds on the border,it is the best spot to cast your pop up. Set 1 up pop up high (1.5 inch=4cms ). In this case do not bait or prebait at all. Just 1 pop up + 1PVA bag with pellets or there is an other approach is to spray or soak your pop up in 1dips pot that's it. You never know when fish spawn because it can happend any time from May to August depending where you are. Some carps spawn earlier or later than others. Average weight are between 10 to 30lb (the biggest 44lbs almost) More powerful than the European's carp (pound for pound)

*Regarding hooks: Number 1 or 2 short shank.

*Regarding strategy: Nothing fancy. Massive baiting sweet corn or boilies or both (30lbs of bait a day at least) I chum only with boilies to avoid...... shads,minnows,crappies,bluegil, turtles and small catfish will be glad to take care of your seed and nothing will be available for carp!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Consider that.... Even if you fish the river's border the current is so strong it will clean up your swim in few minutes and your lovely sweet mais will run away far from your line, that's why, I use boilies only. The boilies stay longer on the spot because they are heavier than any seed and avoid others fish or animal (see above). When carps come on the swim, boilies will be in the right place close to your lines.

*The Best swims on this river: This river is loaded of billions of zipper mussel everywhere, that's why the river is so Clear and Clean. No doubt, this is the cleanest big river in US and Canada.

Number #1 spot: Zipper mussel's areas. Number #2 spot: The "edge" between bay & river. You have to be a good and accurate caster in this case, because most of the time is a long shot to reach the "edge"). Third good swim is the Island. Fish north of the island (up stream) if the water is very warm and south (down stream) of the island if the water is very cold. Both advices will bring to you more fish.

*About leader: Technipeche steel-leadcore or Armored tube otherwise I Guarantee you will regret!!!. Nothing can resist against those powerful zipper mussels even the fluorocarbon or big mono....

*About hookline & lead attachment: Inline-lead or Safety clip with lead of  4oz  at least (pear lead/watch lead). Fluorocarbon extremely stiff/25lbs minimum + set set-up hair-rig with braid. (hookline from 8 to 9 inches in river's current. 4 to 5 inches for backwater or bay if the bottom is solid: gravel, sand, clay,bu if it is muddy added 15 inches for hookline/rig with helicopter leader).

*Be carful after 5pm to 7pm (depending where you are). During summer time: millions of mosquitos coming to bite you. Guarantee, Impossible to fish. If the wind is front of you, you will be safe and glad because fishing will be extremely good.... otherwise you will be in trouble.

*Best time for fishing; summer-time from Sunrise to 5/7 pm. Winter-time only september/october (anytime day/night)

*Best tool to check your swim is the Smartcast from Humminbird company. I use this tool since 8 years it is an abslolutely amazing tool to understand your swim perfectly from the shoreline and much better than any Marker. The green flashy sensor can be cast until 80 yards with no probleme from the shoreline with good rod. Setup the fishfinder up to 5 feet on the tripode (Higher is,.. better is for signal).

*Equipment: Rods 10/13 feet with 3lb/3.5lb (test curve) with big pit reel (200 yards of braid or mono) + shockleader of 50lb + armored leader for zipper mussels.

*US regulation allows 2 rods per angler. Canadian regulation allows 1 rod per angler.

*Regarding boilies. Here, No time needed to accustom carps with boilies because the competition is phenomenal between carps. No time to be suspicious. Carp takes the boilies as fast as the sweet corn. You need a massive quantity of boilies it will cost you a lot of money if you bring them from Europe. Sometime the US or Canadian custum-border Do not allow the oversea's boilies. Hopfully, doesn't matter Royalcarp offers the LOWEST PRICE for boilies in USA /Canada, directly to your hotel or your location.

*How many boilies Do I need per day ? Minimum10 packs X (1kilo=2.2lb)

$5 =2.2lb/1 kilo of boilies. With this price you can bait as many boilies as you want. We are not in Europe here. There are millions & millions carps everywhere. I challenge anyone who can find such water like that on earth even on the Danube or Volga rivers, You will find bigger fish that's sure.... But will never find such Big population of carps like that. No doubt the Best place on earth for quantity (FUN Guarantee + Extremely SAFE  for everyone. Umbrella in USA  is allow everywhere but not Biwy/tent. You can Fishing at night in any states in US in river as well as lake.  On this river all carps eat fast & move quickly to an other spot. Dont miss their venues on your swim....... otherwise you'll be "off" . You should be able to have enough food on your side, to keep them busy for few hours.  My Favorite boilies are: BBQ, Blackberry,Chocolate and Fish. They are many guides for carp fishing, but if you want the Best with Best price go on: www.saintlawrenceexperience.com

If you fish only few hours on the Saint Lawrence river definitevely the Pineapple or Banana Premium boilies 18mm will give you the best result in short time with 4 boilies on the PVA string or 4 boilies crushed inside a PVA bag.

Why baiting campaign is so fantastic? Carp learn through association, so the idea of a baiting campaign is to make the carp associate safety with the new bait. If any carp have been caught before, which in a popular lake means most of the fish, they will generally feed on baits cautiously, and some carp may not even touch baits at all. A cautious feeding carp will be hard to catch because they have learned ways to evade capture. Some may have even learned how to “test” for tethered bait. I have seen carp swim hard into a bed of bait causing the free offerings to bounce up off the bottom then take the food while it is suspended in the water. In this particular example the carp may have learned through experience that most hook bait won’t bounce up from the bottom because they are tethered to a hook link. Carp aren’t necessarily clever creatures, but they have had plenty of experience and the time to work out regular patterns to cope in dangerous situations. There are two main ways to catch carp easily; create a feeding frenzy by encouraging large numbers of carp to feed (the competition for food causes them to forget about any potential danger) or encourage carp to lower their guard by making the food seem safe. The trouble with the first tactic is its very difficult to make large numbers of carp feed together. A baiting campaign will encourage the carp to feed confidently, thus they will lower their guard and take the bait further into the mouth giving the hook more of a chance to grab a hold.

Successful of Pre-Baiting Campaign .You establish a new bait by regularly throwing in a kilo or two of your chosen bait in various areas of the lake. Throw the bait into all the places you think carp will be hanging out. Remember carp love weeds and safe areas like snags, so make sure you get plenty in these areas. Many anglers don’t like fishing in weedy or snaggy areas, so it is less likely that you will be baiting the area up for others. Also, a safe area means the carp are more likely to feed on the baits quickly, and it is less likely other, nuisance fish will be eating them first. For these reasons put a larger portion of the bait into these areas. Once you have introduced the bait over a month or so then put the majority of the bait out in places where you’re likely to cast. At the latter stages of the baiting campaign this will help make the carp feed more confidently out of those “safe zones” and give you a greater chance of catching when the bait has become established. When thinking of where to place bait, remember to cover the margins in places where you can see the bait. Then you can check to see if it’s been eaten over the next few days(at list3 days). Carp may also associate danger in the areas where they have been caught from previously, thus it can pay dividends if you target areas where many anglers don’t usually fish, unless there is an obvious reason not to fish those areas.
The frequency of baiting up can range from every other day to once every two weeks, it really depends on the number of times you can get to the lake for an hour or so. As a rough guide, I try to bait up two to three times per week for four months. I may change it depending on how much time, money or travelling I have. It could be changed to twice a week for six months and maybe throw three kilos in rather than two kilos.
Remember the more the carp see the new bait and get used to it, the more likely they will feed on it. They will eventually start to associate that bait as a safe food that’s always available, thus they will start to neglect other angler’s bait because yours will be freely available. When you have arrived at this stage, the carp are conditioned to the bait, and you will be in a position to exploit it with anmazing results.

You really want to hook the Trophy carp of your life....

Consider that!

Why nobody in the United States, since the last 35 years has never caught any carp above 45lb? (except some bow hunters or some lucky fishermen but they did it once in their entire life). Thousands of fishermen in Europe catch every single day hundreds of huge carps from 44 to 60lb and some hundreds of carps between 60 to 80 lb. 99% of the time, they caught all these fish with boilies.

The american fisherman can do the same and I'm here to help you guys. I really do believe that in United States we can beat the world record of common carp (82.33 lb from Romania) for 3 reasons: More water, more fish and carps are more easy to catch in USA and we have less carp anglers, but, we have to realize that  you have to do that it suppose. It will easy to find the top spots for big carps because the population of carp fishermen is small and fish stay in peace with no pression and stress. If you are a serious carp angler and ready to pay the price to be the creme of the carp anglers you have to prebait a lot and regulary than you will catch the biggest carps of your state.

The "problem" comes from education and culture.90% of the carp anglers (do not prebait at all) and when they prebait it is just a couple hands of seeds or boilies, the day before fishing. The lakes in US are so big ,that you really have to prebait a lot. One week at least before your fishing time. It is a minium duration for good results. If you have a lake or river not  far from your home with Royalcarp's boilies you will be able to start a serious campagne of prebaiting at lowest cost of the country and to increase your fishing success by 100%.

Just for the story: The 2 UK winners of the world carp Tournament 5 years ago in New York state, caught hundreds of carps in a few days........ with 50 lb of boilies used every day. I was there so I can tell you.

I have been 16  times on the carp fishing TV serie in Europe in the last 25 years. with some carps caught between 35 to 65 lb just with this strategy (prebaiting/only with boilies).

About corn bait, with sweet corn you will be sure 100% to stay almost at the same level of small carps (with some exception of 40 lb  few times in your life) Corn is a really great bait to catch a lot of small carps there is no doubt. In the same time sweet corn will bring you everything such as (catfish, turtle, minnow, mussel, crappies ect...) in fact 80 % of the sweet corn will feed a bunch of many animals and almost nothing for carps becuase they will come after all of the others species. Now you can understand why I use only boilies for carp fishing in any case.(summer time as well as winter time).Never forget 100% of the biggest carps on the planet were caught with boilies.

 THE SECRET OF SUCCESS

Campaign of prebaiting in the water system

First point/Location: Make sure that the lake where you fish produces the "trophy record". Some lakes do not have big fish. Find the spot where there are big carps, where they eat or jump regularly. Best time to fish from May to October. for north of the coutry and for the south none stop winter is my favorite season (quiet nobody and all the lake for you only)

Second point/Prebaiting: Boilies of 18mm /always used only one flavor

)FIRST DAY:  If possible, use a boat and cast everywhere on the water in one time 22lb of boilies on 5 acres of surface to make sure it will give enough food for all carps. During this time, I do not fish, let the fish quiet and in peace because carps will start to swim a lot to find all these boilies and they will stay here for a while. You will cover a big surface to make sure that you will be able to stop some of big fish on this zone. Do not use corn, it will bring a lot of crayfish, catfish, buffalo, turtle and minnow and it won't attract the biggest fish. 80% of your corn will feed thousands of minnows, bremes or any kind of small fish and nothing will stay for carps.

SECOND DAY: Same quantity 22 lb of boilies in 2.5 acres of surface. Same quantity of food as the 1st day BUT the story is different: the competion will be harder between carps. The population will be bigger but the area twice shorter. The biggest carps will eat in first or will eat more. More you will have carps more the competition for food will be hard and less less they will be suspicious because they will try to eat faster than another one even if they don't want to eat .....so, it will be easier to catch some of them.

THIRD DAY: Same quantity 22lb of boilies in 1 acre of surface same story but again shorter and shorter. Make sure you will bring all the carps in teh short area. NOW the real "ultimate fighting"  start between carps. The biggest will push away the smallest ect.....

FOURTH DAY: Now, you are ready for the "big day" and to catch the big carps. If they are many jet skis during the daytime fish at night. If it is quiet at daytime fish during the day. Never forget that usually the fish eat more during the day than the night whatever the most of the fishermen beleive. Always one rod close (20 yards) to the border (especially at night), second rod 50 yards and the third rod as far as you can. After a short time you will have almost all your run on the same rod. In this case you will know where carps feed. For each carp you caught you have to cast (with a throwing stick) 50 boilies in the water around your leader. Each time cast again the same quantity of boilies to make sure you leave the spot always active with some food at the bottom.I know, you think that it is  to much....but this is the price for a trophy! .For any results in any sports, there is a price for succesful.YOU ARE READY..... I WILL HELP YOU and you will be the first angler of your state to catch the biggest carps frequently.

HOW MUCH IT COST? 30 packs of boilies "classic range"(66lb) for 3 days of prebaiting plus 10 packs of boilies for 2 days fishing.40 packs of boilies= $199 .You can share with your partners. It will be a very affordable deal for an amazing adventure. It is a lot cheaper than a guide or a bass boat...Up to 2 packs of boilies you will pay $4.99 =1 pack(Classic boilies= 1 bag of 2.2 lb)

REMEMBER WHEN YOU WERE A KID.

Do you remember  the last time you have been in a public park with a lake? You probably saw a lot of  people casting away some bread (or food) and you saw many carps coming when the people started to feed them. That's kind of prebaiting ! because people are used to feed these fish and carps are used to this kind of food in this specific area.Do that by yourself by prebaiting some spots, somewhere where you saw some carps. Prebait 1 pack of boilies a day during 3 or 4 days in a row. I know that it is boring to go somewhere  just for prebaiting and  do not fish but  try and you will be extremely surprised by your results. You will catch many carps WITH THIS WAY, just for you and your fellows. You can prebait 2 or 3 good spots all year round. It willl be better and better each time and also you can switch from one spot to another. Maybe you'll find out that  one of these spots is better than the others.

WHY! it will be better, because the fish will remember it as a good place  for food (EASY FOOD). that's simple. We catch my fellows and myself almost 15 carps (300lb) per angler and per fishing-day, sometimes much more. Sometimes also we blanked but only 3 or 5 times a year. Consider that !We fish around 40 weekends a year together. It is not a lot of blank, but that's true we bait a lot. No secret! If you don't do this way you will catch just a few carps!

My way when I fish the same spot many times: I bait 2 packs (4.4lb) of boilies always the same flavor the day before I fish. When you  cast away those boilies with your "throwing stick" or "catapult" (see baiting-tool) you have to cover around 150 yards around your spot to make sure you will attract a lot of big fish. You can share this expense with your partner .Why such a large distance? To be able to change your casting range each time you will catch one carp and plus you will not scare the rest of the carps on your spot. The second reason is to be able to give enough food for all of the carps.More you will be able to nourish a big population of carps more you will have  carps on your swim and more you will catch carps. Carps will remember your boilies as far as you prebait. Never forget that the fish looks for the easy food as deer or turkey when hunting. If there is one secret it is PREBAITING .

When I start fishing I cast with my "strowing stick" 20 boilies around each  leader (1rod) than after each fish caught I cast again 20 boilies to give some good reason for the rest of the carps  to stay still on my spot. And I recast at the same place where I caught a carp earlier. If you do this way you will catch more fish that any other angler. You will be EXTREMELY surprised by your results. If for any reason you bait a lot but you do not catch anything don't worry you will not lose your money and time for nothing. Come back and the next time carps will remember your boilies and it will be better and better. After that if it doesn't work call me we will find the solution.

   Where to find carps

All of the following are signs of areas where you will find carp.
Dead trees in the water / water lilies / reeds / inlets or outlets of water / large rocks / crayfish / corners of lakes and rivers / bridges / boats / mussels / clams / points of lakes / islands / headlands / shoals / areas where carps are jumping / the warmest areas / windswept banks / areas of irregular depth.

The best spot all year round for carp fishing  : find grain elevators on the river bank or lake bank where the ships fill up. I t is really the best place to find the biggest carp. Fish as close as you can in front of the ship.

Spring : Look for warm water (shallow spot ). The most important is to find where the water is warmer.

Summer : Look for the jump of the carps. It is very good, 90% of the time.

Fall : The best season for carp fishing. The carp feeds a lot before the winter.

Winter : Usually, it is the low season for carp fishing. If you have 5 or 7 warm days in a row, the same wind (any wind is good except " west wind"  who is the worth wind for carp fishing ), you have to go fishing.Usually the best moment for fishing in winter is between 10am to 5pm when the wheater is warmer before and after it doesn't make sense.

The good approach is: Cast 3 solide-boilies on a PVA (PVA bag, PVA string) per rod no more or you can use one pop-up on a pellets carpet. More you are precise more it is efficient . If you find a shallow and deep area, it should be great . The best way to find the warmest water is to used the "fish -finder" with the thermocline.

How to choose the right place for your rods

When you find a new fishing area, cast in different place :

  • One rod and line by the bank
  • One in the middle of the baited area
  • One on the edge of the baited area

This strategy will allow you to locate the fish and cover a wide zone.
It will give you a precise idea of the fishing zone and how the fish are behaving.

Presence of crayfish ( or Mussels, Turtle, Shad, Duck, Catfish...)

Disadvantages :
Crayfish and all the animals above love to eat
boilies, whether they are on your hair or free in the water. After a few hours boilies look like cherry pits.

Solution :
Air dry your
boilies for 2 or 3 days in a cool and dry place (never in direct sunlight and not on the top of a radiator). By this way, you will have harder boilies, which crayfish will find more difficult to eat.
The carp itself can eat very hard
boilies.
In this way you can be sure that your
boilie will stay on the hair to attract a carp on to your line. Some crayfish manage to nibble away at your boilies after they have been in the water after several hours, because even a hardened boilie will soften after 5 or 6 hours in the water. You should therefore reel in your lines every two hours to check the condition of your boilies on the hair. You can use pop-ups, which float just above the bottom of the water. This way you can be sure that crayfish won’t be able to eat your boilie from off the hair. (See pop-ups)

The best solution: We have made some hard boilies: Royal Fruit, Royal Fish, BBQ, Scopex, Red Star,Curacao,Indian to offer to you this huge advantage that you will never feed anything but carps.

   Fishing in a lake

The stronger the wind, the better the fishing will be during the summer time. Fish from windswept lakesides, even if it’s uncomfortable. West wind is always the worth wind for carp fishing.
Lay out bait regularly (1 bag of
boilies per day) and always in the same place.more your pre bait large more you cover the big fishing zone  so more you will be able to fish in different spot to located where the carps are!

If you find you’re catching fewer fish, change bait flavor or change the position you are fishing from.
Lay out bait in several areas, so you can get to know the best areas for fishing.
When you start fishing, cast about sixty
boilies per rod.
Cast twenty more
boilies after each time you catch a fish.
Cast your line (Accessories) back into the same place where you last caught a carp.

Beyond 70 yards, your lead should be heavy enough to stay in place on the bottom when it’s windy or when you have weed or debris clinging to your line on the surface. If your lead is heavy, your tie mainline (Accessories) won’t move and your line will stay straight so that the
hook doesn’t get caught up on the bottom of the lake. If the lead isn’t heavy enough, the whole tie mainline (Accessories) will move around.

  Fishing in a river

Lay out bait regularly and in generous quantities, because boilies get swept away by the current. The more bait you lay out, the better your results will be : at least one bag of boilies per day.
It’s impossible to saturate an area with food, for the current eventually sweeps everything away. River carps swim around far more than lake carps.
The faster the current, the nearer the carp will be to the bank (95% are taken from between 5 and 28 yards from the bank).

  Carp fishing Fall & Winter

October and november are the best season for biggest carps because they need to eat a lot and fast before the deep winter. November and december is also good in the south because temperature are still cold but not to much. Most important is the temperature of the water not outside. The Best location on the lake are: The deepest of the lake because the bottom of the water stays long time warm during the winter season. Carps always looking for for the warmest water and some time they stay during many weeks on the same area without cruising for any other spot. The second great place is on the North West of the lake because the sun beat those borders longer and sooner than any other (from 9 am to 4pm).other good spot find the shalow water, why beause those borders get warm fast just after 1 or 2 hoursduring 9am to 5pm  (more is shallow more is getting warmer faster) warm water is also necessery for carp's metabolism toeat safely. Other good spot is the "plateau" where usually there is weeds(middle of the plateau  and Also the Beginning of the descent is good). Do not forget that you have to be ready from 9am to 5pm. If the wind is to clod & strong find the spot with no wind( close bay) ortherwise go on in deep water. They are some other good  spot such as :  around the marina.  If you want to fish when it is very cold & windy the 2 only best place are:  "Power plan" and "deepest of the lake"( until 100 feet is still good to catch carps)

The Ultimate Weapons in Winter: First rod: fill up your PVA bag with some pellets plus1 boilie on your hait rig.Second rod Fill up your PVA bag with some pellets plus 2 micro boilies or 4 grains of mais-cooked on your hair rig.Third rod: 1 pop-up on your hair rig with 1PVA bag with some pellets. Soak your pop up inside the dip of your choice. Do not bait or prebait on your swim if the water is bellow 30 degree. Up to 45 degree you can prebait 1 pack of boilies(2.2lb) the day before fishing to attract carps during the night . There is an other way is to prebait everyday during 7days before fishing to increase your results (1 pack 2.2lb a day). There is also an alternative strategy who is: to set up one Method mix on each rod plus spray 10 boilies around each rod with your sliding shot . Those ways will bring carps on your spot and stay allow to keep them busy for a all the day.

Extreme cold water in deep winter Icy winds from all the country, thick blankets of snow across the whole country, frozen lakes and temperatures staying below zero day after day! Just about most of the lakes in the country has been frozen solid for at least two weeks and apart from a few die-hard river anglers most of us have had no hope of going fishing. Of course life still goes on under the thick layer of ice. So while we have been enjoying the opportunity to throw snowballs, what have the carp been up to and are there any dangers for fish stuck under the ice for such an extended period?

Carp like most fish are cold blooded. This means that their body temperature is the same as the water that they are swimming in, which currently means they are VERY cold! During the last two or three weeks water temperatures below the ice will have hovered just above freezing. For a carp, that has evolved to live in warmer climates, temperatures below ten degrees centigrade are cold. This is different to other species that we commonly fish for in the winter months such as pike or grayling, which are far better suited to life in cool water.
As the temperature of the carp falls, its metabolism slows right down. Once the temperature has dropped below ten degrees celcius the metabolism of the carp will slow down significantly and this affects their behaviour. Unlike us, carp cannot increase their activity to warm themselves up so they actually reduce their movement as the water temperature falls. In the prolonged extremely cold weather conditions that we are currently experiencing carp will virtually shut down. They minimise any feeding activity and may even stop feeding completely for long periods. They often rest on the lake bed and will not move for several days becoming virtually torpid. If the fish do move a little, the periods of activity are often really short, lasting a few minutes and in my experience are commonly at dusk.

Carp that are close to torpidity will tend to group up together, often in the deeper water where the water temperature is likely to be more stable. In my experience carp will often bunch up tightly near to features such as sunken branches or amongst the roots of lilies. While undertaking netting operations during the winter months I have frequently come across carp tightly grouped close to snags or under overhanging trees. It is always amazing and interesting to find these groups of over-wintering fish. They are frequently stacked several feet deep and because they are so cold they are staggeringly sleepy. On some occasions if the water is really cold I have been able to pick fish up and lift them from the water and they have hardly flinched!

Recently an interesting scientific study undertaken in European carp rearing ponds, using fish tracking technology, showed that cold water carp are actually more active than had been previously thought. During the winter undisturbed carp in the study kept to localised areas of their lake. Although they moved about in the winter, the movement of the fish was restricted to these small areas. It is almost as if the carp have a small winter territory and will not venture beyond it. The research also showed that this activity continues to go on under ice, but for only short periods, and that the carp in the study were even feeding at water temperatures as low as 3oC! It is important to note that the volume of food consumed at these near freezing temperatures is tiny. So are there any risks to carp that are trapped under the ice for long periods such as those that we are having now? As I have already mentioned carp are not really adapted to live in temperatures this low. But having said that a healthy fish, which reached the winter in peak condition should be able to withstand very long periods of extreme cold. The really harsh conditions that we are currently having are however likely to cause old or out of condition fish problems and could potentially lead to mortalities in some situations.

Probably the biggest risk to coarse fish trapped under the ice is from shortage of oxygen. Although the metabolism of the carp at present will be very slow indeed, it is still ticking over and therefore they still require a little oxygen to survive. Ice effectively acts like a plastic bag over the surface of a lake. It prevents essential oxygen diffusing into the lake and also traps unwanted gases for escaping into the atmosphere. Although very cold water will hold plenty of oxygen, as soon as it has iced over the amount of dissolved oxygen it is holding will slowly start to decrease as it is used up by all of the aquatic life within the pond. This not only includes the fish, but also all the amphibians, aquatic bugs, bacteria and microbes beneath the surface. For example decaying weed beds and rotting leaves will use up a considerable volume of dissolved oxygen over time.

In the majority of lakes the oxygen content beneath the ice will fall very slowly and therefore they should not have become critical YET. However, in lakes that are heavily stocked with fish or that contain high levels of rotting weed or silt that will be using up the oxygen, things may have started to become critical. In these cases carp will often be observed coming up under the ice in an attempt to reach the surface and of course some oxygen. Once they have reached this stage the clock is really ticking and unless the weather conditions change quickly or the fishery manager can break some of the ice up to allow oxygen to enter the water mortalities are likely to occur.Hopefully within the next week the weather will start to warm a little and the frosty fingers of this winter will lessen their grip on our country. Let’s hope that as the ice melts we have not had too many casualties and that the spring brings us some warm winds and excellent fishing conditions ….

If you still want fishing in deep winter, make sure the temperature raise up minimum of 50` F outside with warm wind for at least 3 or 4 days and figure it out where is the deepest of the lake(deeper the lake is... longer the water stay warm) or second possbility is to go on the shalow water west cost, because the water get warm fast. Few degree can change everything for fishing. start fishing (from 10am to 4pm when the sun is high and water warms up just few degree but few carps will be there during 1 or 2 hours no more but  if you are here it can be fantastic to catch few carps when all others fishermen will catch nothing during all the winter season.

When to use Boilie, pop-up or micro-boilie.

Boilie
When the water is clear, always use dense boilies.
We advise you to use several flavors at the same time so as to find the flavor or flavors that the carp like best in the location where you are fishing.
Whichever flavor you choose, all these
boilies contain fishmeal protein, giving them a strongly addictive effect on the carp after several days of use. The animal proteins in the boilie accustom the carp to a complete and natural form of nourishment.

Pop-up
When the water is murky or with many small obstacles (twigs, dead leaves, mud…), use a pop-up which floats at the right height above the bottom (depending on the size and thickness of the obstacles) so that your pop-up floats just over the bottom (from 1 to 5 inches). When the carp are not active, use pop-ups, for a carp that is swimming around could take your pop-up just through curiosity. Always use a rod and line with a pop-up.

First mount : Use your boilie needle to thread your pop-up on to the hair of your tie mainline (Accessories). Once the pop-up is on the hair, you can put a small lead above the hook, adjusting the lead according to the height at which you want the pop-up to float (1 to 5inches). If you have to cast a long way, you can tie a small knot with a piece of line on to your hook line to prevent the leads from slipping down when you cast hard. Don't forget to put this lead on, otherwise the pop-up will float towards the surface up the entire length of the hook line. Use special hooks for pop-ups (see file on Hooks). In lakes : use only one pop-up, since fish are more suspicious than in rivers.

Second mount : First thread your pop-up on to the boilie needle, then your dense boilie. Slide both boilies on to the hair. You should have the dense boilie near the hook and the pop-up on your boilie stop. The pop-up will float up from the bottom, pulling the dense boilie with it. This will give you a dense boilie on the bottom with a pop-up just above it. This combination will occur automatically and will give an assembly where both boilies will move around. The combination of dense boilie and pop-up is excellent for river angling, as the current creates vibrations which attract carp. Micro-boilies are designed to take carp which are refusing boilies, or which will only accept seeds. Micro-boilies are the same size as seeds and have the same flavours, so as to keep the advantages of seeds but avoid their disadvantages. Use dip flavours which are identical to micro-boilie flavours to boost their power and make them attract carp more quickly .

Disadvantages of seeds :

  • 24 to 72 hours soaking time required
  • 15 minutes to 1 hour cooking required
  • Can only be kept a short time (a few days)
  • Difficult to transport
  • Seeds are heavy when wet
  • Wet seeds cannot be used with line and bags but only with the Bait Rocket
  • Impossible to use in acidic waters
  • Cooked seeds keep badly
  • Any seed attract minnow, ducks, goose, turtle, crayfish, catfish ect.....

Advantages of micro-boilies :

  • Effective all year round
  • No preparation required
  • Ready to use
  • Will keep for several months
  • Effectiveness identical to that of seeds
  • No problem to transport (delivered in packets)
  • Easy to use with either PVA bags or PVA string or spod
  • Selective baiting for carp, buffalo and grass carp
  • Excellent for competition use
  • Excellent for difficult fish
  • Can be used for angling in acidic waters

Distance and length of hook lines.

The longer your distance, the shorter your hook line should be (between 7 "and 12").
The further you cast, the more likely it is that you will get your hook line tangled. 7" is the right length to avoid ever getting tangled.
For distances of between 5 and 50 yards, the
hook line should be from 7" (lake /pond) to 12" (river)

*** The length of the hook link is calaculate between the top of the hook and the swivel

The easiest boilie's knot (The knotless knot)

When you make your knot on your braid to set up the hair rig, add a little bit of super glue on the knot. to be sure the knot will stay in place.

The right size for your hair rig is 2.5 inches, not shorter for sinking bait otherwise the fish will feel the hook to soon.We consider the The length of the hair rig between the hook 's curve & the bottom of the bait.

2.5 inches allow to make sure carp will not feel the hook to soon when she swalow the bait. With this 2.5In the rotation/articulation between bait & hair rig will be perfect.

How to rig a boilie on a hair

1 - Thread the boilie on a baiting needle

2 - Hook the air loop with the needle

3 - Slide the boilie from the needle onto the air

4 - Slide the boilie down the hook

5 - Put a boilie stop through the loop

6 - Slide the boilie down the stop

  Carp Fishing Terms

Bait Drill - Mounted small diameter drill used to bore holes in hard bait.

Baiting Needle - A device used to impale hard bait so they may be threaded onto a hair rig.

Baitrunner - A type of spinning reel that allows line to be pulled under minimal resistance when the baitrunner mechanism is engaged. It is used to prevent the entire rod from being pulled into the water.

Bite alarm (or alarm or buzzer) - Electronic indicator used to show when a fish pulls the line.

Bolt Rig - A rig intended to frighten the fish into bolting (running off) so that the heavy weight will effectively hook the fish as it swims away.

Catapult - Slingshot used to fire out bait like boilies.

Hair rig - A rig using a hook with a short lenght of line (the hair) coming off the shank of the hook. The hair rig allows hard bait to be fished without blocking the hook point.

Hair Stop (or Boilie Stop) - A little piece of plastic used to keep hard bait from sliding off the hair once they have been threaded on.

Holdall - Rod bag capable of hauling several rods with reels attached an more rods without reels. Most have room for banksticks, a rod pod, the landing net, and even an umbrella (brolly).

Hooklength (or hookline or hook link) - The bit of line tied to the hook. In the USA it is typically called a leader.

Indicator (or swinger or hanger or monkey climber) - Visual device used to show line movement. Usually, attached below the bite alarm.

Lead - A term meaning sinker. The heavy weight used to aid in casting and holding the line on the bottom.

Leadcore – Braid which has lead in it in order to stick on the bottom.

Mainline - The majority of the line on the reel not including a shock leader or backing if present.

Maize – Corn

Pop-up - A type of boilie designed to float. Often held close to the bottom by a small weight placed on the line near the hook. Allows the bait to be fished above leaves, weeds, soft silt, ...

Pre-baiting - chumming. Throwing in free bait to attract the fish to an area. Extensive pre-baiting is called a baiting campaign.

PVA - Poly Vinyl Aclcohol - A plastic like material that dissolves in water. It is used to attach extra bait near the hook an to dissolve away before the fish comes along. It is made into bags, string, mesh bags...

Rod pod - A rod holder for use during fishing. A rod pod is able to be set up on any surfaces.

Snowman rig - A method of attaching two boilies on a single hair with the heavier sinking boilie nearest the hook and the pop-up nearest the hair stop. In profile, it looks like a two section snowman.

Spod - A cup like device used to cast and dump bait in a fishing area. Often the device is shaped like a rocket with fins to help it fly straight. The nose is fitted with foam so it floats up and dumps the bait cargo out the back.

Stringer - A length of PVA string with a few free baits attached as in a 3 bait stringer.

Swim - A fishing spot.

Swingers or Hangers

The swingers are visual indicators. When you put your rod on your rod pod, the mainline is in the middle of the bite alarm and  you hook the swinger to the mainline. When you get a run the swinger will rise and you will also hear your bite alarm. if the fish runs towards you (Drop Back) the swinger will fall which indicates that your line  went slack. In this case, you will hear no sound from your bite alarm that is why the swingers are usefull.

Throwing Stick - A tubular stick used to throw boilies at long distances.

Unhooking Mat - A pad used to protect the fish while removing the hook. Any padded material that prevents the carp from getting cut and scraped up while lying on the bank can function as an unhooking mat. This item helps the angler return the fish in as nearly the same condition as when it was caught.
